When i do that it messes up my download, i have a 5000/1000 connection, but when i do the test at dslreports it says its a 4500/950. If I choose my upload the way everyone suggests then its 95. But when i do that i onlt download at like 90. But when i set it to about 40-60 i can get anywhere from 500-700 download.

Just thought i would say that incase there is a better way to find what your upload should be.

Its only divide by 8
Byte = 8 bits

Since all those tests go by bits you have to divide by 8 to get a Byte.

well if its only divide by 8 then my upload should be higher, like around 120. That mean i would have to select T1 as my connection, even though i have high speed extreme (what my ISP calls what i have)

I forgot to mention that mulitplying by .8 gives you the 80% of upload which is what you are after since it gives you the best download speed.

Also yes do whatever you need to get 80% of the max upload.

well, i guess that works for most people, but not for me. When i set my upload to 80% of my max my download takes a HUGE hit and never gets above my upload. So for me dividing by .8 and them by 3 works the best for me.

You are dumb. "Upload = Download x 0.8" is WRONG.

well, the ISP can't give you exacly 100% up / 100% down, there might be an error marginal of like 5-10% you know so don't cream you pants if one site on the internet says you only got 4500 instead of your ISPs 5000...

80 percent of upload only make sense if your download isn't much faster then your upload say 1.0/512 or 2.0/1.0
for something like 3.0/512, 3.0/384, 1.5/256
I think 50-60 percent is the best setting!!!
For a T1, T3 user, symetrical about 90 percent
Use whatever works best, their is no universal setting as all used have different download/upload caps

huh? wouldn't that just make your upload cap even higher?
