Post subject:  Please help a noob

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to help me out.
I am NOT computer friendly, and am struggling to do things that come naturally for you.

I started using bittornado to download some movies for my children. I have mostly had good luck with everything, except wmv files.

I have downloaded more codecs and players and inspectors that my head is spinning.

No matter what I try, I cannot play a wmv file. In my win med player, I get errors that there is something wrong with my sound, but it is aok. It also goes on about ID3 headers? Nothing I try works.

I have tried to convert wmv files using cucusoft, videozilla, etc. Nothing works.

Please help.
Thanks,
Ken

Windows? http://www.cccp-project.net/

Linux? Mac? You may be out of luck. VLC may be your best bet. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Thank you Shadow. Not only for trying to help, but for all of the hard work that you obviously put into bit tornado.

I use windows xp. I have windows media 11.

On the last file that I tried, a copy of Coraline from demonoid.com, there was a message in the folder that said I needed a DRM Indentifier. I don't know what that is, but I can't seem to find something with google.

I went to demonoid.com and thier registration is closed, so I can't ask there. They do have an alert on thier site that DRM is a trojan program, but this just confuses me. This came from them?

If you can point me in the right direction, thanks...
If you can't thanks anyway.

Run Windows Update, make sure your system is updated.

XP w/ WM 11 should do all WMV, something may have screwed up your codec base.

The download at the bottom of this page may help. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/window ... nload.aspx

I tried the things suggested. Remember I am a computer dud. I think that I have followed and performed correctly.

I did try some other suggestions.

I did a different download and it turned out to be a wmv also.
I rightclicked it and under a liscense tab, it had "Protected Content".
I think I might be at the source of my problem.

I looked at the folder that was downloaded and there are 3 files.
one is the wmv ( the actual movie ), one is a .nfo and one is a .sfv file that I cannot open.

Am I missing something?

Open the .NFO file with notepad; it may contain information that can help.

I can't believe this.

I just opened it and it had stuff about pornography in it, obscene websites and such.

Thank goodness I wasn't able to open the file, this was a movie that I have been trying to download for my CHILDREN.

Well , thank you yet again for all of your help.
And thank you for all of the work you put into Bit Tornado.

PS.

Another movie I dl'd for them keeps coming up with directions to go to <REDACTED> for a password.

I think I smell a turd in my rose garden.

you should probably look for a different smaller site, preferably a private torrent site. that way shit like that doesnt happen
