Hi everyone,

I'm using router SMC7004VCR and I have heard about NAT ( I'm behind NAT server now ) . I have also visited www.portforward.com fo find out how to forward ports but the pictures on that site are not match with my router ( a little bit different ) ...
and I'm not good at computer so I still have no idea about port forwardings :( ...

Could someone help me to configure for my router ? I have captured my router admistrator's page and upload here :

1. Virtual Server :
http://www33.brinkster.com/Tony1983/VirtualServer.jpg

2. Special Application :

pic1 : http://www33.brinkster.com/tony1983/app1.jpg
pic2 : http://www33.brinkster.com/tony1983/app2.jpg

Is it correct and speed up if I set my router like this :
*Computer 1 : ( IP : 192.168.2.5 )
a./ Virtual Server :
|Private IP-----|---Private Port---|---Type----|----Public Port----|
192.168.2.5---------6881--------------TCP------------6881

b./ Special Application :
|Trigger Port--|---Trigger Type---|---Public Port---|-Public Type-|-Enable-|
-----6881------------TCP---------------6881-6999--------TCP--------check

*Computer 2 : ( IP : 192.168.2.6 )
a./ Virtual Server :
|Private IP-----|---Private Port---|---Type----|----Public Port----|
192.168.2.6---------6889--------------TCP------------6889

b./ Special Application :
|Trigger Port--|---Trigger Type---|---Public Port---|-Public Type-|-Enable-|
-----6889------------TCP---------------6881-6999--------TCP--------check

and some more questions :
1./ Sould I use bittoren on both two computers and open two different ports for two computers like above ? does it make bittorent download faster or lower ?
2./ If I set my router to forward ports like above, does internet speed slow down ? ( I mean, I browse web with a lower speed or download other stuff from HTTP, FTP much more slower ) .

Thanks very much for your reading, Any your help would be appreciated .. :)

I believe port forwarding would be under you firewall settings. dunno but i think that is where it is. check there for port forwarding.

Thanks for your reply :) ..
In firewall setting . There are only 2 options : "Enable" and "Disable" firewall . I also checked on Disable, so I think I disabled router's firewall . Now, I just behind NAT server so I just need to open port for Bittorent to communicate with other clients that are behind NAT like me ...I think so ..:(

Okay first off, in your router Virtual Server = Port Forwarding, Special Application = Port Triggering. The best way to handle torrent is by using port forwarding, but your router will have a problem with this. Your router only allows you to forward one port at a time. In order to forward all of the bittorrent ports you would need to create one configuration per port to forward. You need to forward to many ports, to do it that way. So in your case I would use port triggering(Special Application). Remove all of the ports from the Virtual Server Section. Then setup the Special Application section like this..
|Trigger Port--|---Trigger Type---|---Public Port---|-Public Type-|-Enable-|
-----6881------------TCP---------------6881-6999--------TCP--------check
then another entry
|Trigger Port--|---Trigger Type---|---Public Port---|-Public Type-|-Enable-|
-----6882------------TCP---------------6881-6999--------TCP--------check
and another
|Trigger Port--|---Trigger Type---|---Public Port---|-Public Type-|-Enable-|
-----6883------------TCP---------------6881-6999--------TCP--------check
Keep going until
|Trigger Port--|---Trigger Type---|---Public Port---|-Public Type-|-Enable-|
-----6889------------TCP---------------6881-6999--------TCP--------check

Make sure that your firewall is not blocking the ports from 6881-6999.

I actually run portforward.com, sorry that the screen shots are not exactly the same, I'm kind of scrambling for screenshots. I also do not list screenshots for every firmware version, so that might account for some of the discrepancy. If you need additional help, or have comments use the portforward comments page for the quickest help. You can also post in the forum, I stop by here occasionally.
