Weirdness.

For about a year I've had my router setup correctly, and constantly got green lights.

Last night, first time I downloaded a torrent from Lokitorrent, I got a consistent yellow light.

I had two torrents open at the time(never been a problem before though), so I thought having only 20 ports open might be choking it, so I upped it to 30 ports(60000-60020 to /00-/30), and now got a yellow light on another torrent, and another tracker(empornium).

All I did was increase open ports by 10??

NATcheck said it couldnt get through on any of those ports either, althought the bittornado torrent said it could.

So I changed the open ports back to 6880-6900, and all my torrents are green again.

wtf?

Was getting a yellow light on some torrents but green on others. Using a router with port forwarding.

This worked for me:

3) Open bittornado go to Prefs-->advanced
Under Local IP, Put your WAN (wide area network) ip. To get your wan
Ip check status in your routers configuration.

At whatismyip.com it gave me:

Your IP Is xxxx
Proxy Detected Is xxxx

I assume it's due to that proxy.

Download rate gone up from 2-5k/s to 60k/s+

Thanks for the help :)

You can't remove the firewall from xp, idiot, you can only disable it from being run through services. Firewall has nothing to do with it anyways. I had cable with a green light & max 40+kbp/s up speed. I switched to dsl & now have 80+kbp/s up speeds & only once now have had a green light, even after configuring dsl box. I could care less for a green light as I can for speed. Though having it green is a more efficient way to swarm. Still, my ratio is better than ever & takes 1/2 the time to finish

for those of u with upload problems check outgoing bandwith
i have comcast and get 4-5 mb down only 40-50 kb up

if u just turn off windows firewall it seems to still block
i went to advance tab and unchecked for each network adapter
and that seems to turn it off

From what I have read, SP2 plays a lot to do with slow download speeds. Something to do with limiting the TCP to 10. There's a patch out there that changes that number to 50. Unless your computer is well protected from hackers, worms, viruses, etc, I wouldn't advise it. I applied the patch and it helped me out tremendously! I'll see if I can locate the link for the patch and list it here.

robbo95-

Here is the link to Patcher Version 2.23. http://www.lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=news You can read up about in under FAQ. Also, here is a link to find your local IP address. http://www.whatismyip.com/ Place that number under OPTIONS, CONNECTIONS, BIND TO LOCAL IP ADDRESS. Those two changes really speed up my downloads by a ton!! Good Luck!!!

one way around it would be using some other firewall program, not the one from XP....

Lets face it: Windows sucks! Of course it´s a great package for people who dont wanna know what theyre doing, just wanna do it.
But once you start USING your computer, man it sucks! I only keep using it cause i study architecture and the softwares i need only run on Win...

I get greenlight for certain torrents and yellow for others. I use torrents from a single website only.
This is what i have noticed when I connect to yellow ones
1) I can download easily from peers but cant download from seeds.
2) if there are 7-8 peers I connect only to few peers and very few seeders.
3) i download from seeds @ around 1-2KBps for a few seconds and no downloads from them for a long time although there maybe only 2 seeders and no peers using that torrent.

I am using a dial up internet service with 56kbps modem (no router) and my OS is winxp pro sp2 with firewall disabled. I also have norton antivirus 2005 with worm protection disabled.

I use naviscope ( a IE plugin) which sets a proxy and is very useful in browsing. Bittornado seems to use naviscope only for announcing and for downloading it bypasses the proxy i think. And I have got lots of greenlights even with naviscope on.

Post subject: green and yellow lights

Just an observation and question as I lack the expertise of the other contributors:
switced from cable where light always turned green to ADSL where 75% of time they are yellow. Still successfully download all torrents so I'm not sure what difference it makes.

question: when downloading I sometimes notice inconsistent speeds. Up and down. when it stays below 3 kbs for awhile I stop and restart the torrent and usually enter a different swarm where the same thing happens. I believe it is the torrent sites tracker creating the problem (as people drop out of the swarm they do not seem to be replaced).

Any comments?
