 Post subject: Router vs Modem + Hub

I currently use a Netcomm NB1300 + 4 router and I'm having heaps of trouble with NAT and port forwarding. This is possibly a stupid question, but am I right in thinking that if I used a separate ADSL modem and hub/switch that I could avoid the NAT problem all together? What I'm asking is this; is NAT a feature confined to routers alone or do modems use it too?
