What type of firewall do you have? Is it a hardware NAT router based one or is it a software one similar to zone alarm or sygate personal firewall? |

The Sygate Personal Firewall 5.5 Online User Guide has information on how to open ports. You would allow traffic from all addresses using the TCP protocol (incoming) on ports 6881 through 6889 for bittorrent. |
