Post subject: | NetGear Router - Help needed. |
I am using a NetGear router which uses the NAT web based type of firewall. I tried to open the port using the range from 6881 - 6999 but I still can't get the traffic light to go green. Does anyone have the same problem? |

Wich model ? On the DG834 you add the service. ports 6881-6999. then you add a Firewall rule and you have to forward it to the machine your using. If you only use one machine, it will be 192.168.0.2. |

I am using MR314. I have added that too (the IP address right?) but the traffic light is still yellow. Do I need to change anything else? |

If I am using more than two machines, do I use the 192.168.0.1 as the IP address? By the way, what is a DMZ Server? |

1.) Xavier, does your computer (the one running BT) use DHCP? In layman's terms, does it obtain its I.P. address automatically? If so, give it a permanent I.P. address within your router's LAN range. Afterwards, set your forwarding rule to the I.P. address you assigned to your computer. 2.) A DMZ Server is a computer that completely assumes all the ports and I.P. address. It's like your computer wasn't behind a router at all. Unfortunatly, DMZ hosting superceeds(sp?) all other forwarding rules, so other computers will not get any incoming port connections, and leaves the DMZ computer completely exposed. |
