Ever since I switched from cable to DSL internet, my BT downloads have gone craptastically slow. My internet company supplied me with an Actiontec DSL Gateway, model number R1524SU. I checked the specs on it and it says that it has a built-in firewall. Is there any way to work around this somehow? Or am I going to have to stop using BT and find somewhere else to get my stuff??

One way (possibly the only way) I know of is when you are directly conecting to the DSL gateway using WinXP. With the component "Automatic Discovery of internet Gateway Device" (forgot if that's the proper name cus I'm on school's UNIX computer) installed. The DSL gateway will be listed in the properties page of "My Network Place". You can right-click the gateway and then disable build-in firewall.

Thanks for the advice, except, well, I'm using Windows 98. :( Sorry I didn't make that clear before.

So...that's the only way? Oh dear, this isn't good.

Is there any way to get into the modem like changing configurations?
