Again: T1, XP, ZA.

Is port-forwarding still something I need to address when my only firewall is software?

Mind you, I have no problems transferring in any other manner, i.e. MSN, AIM, SoulSeek, etc.

Also, I don't have access to the gateway router, but I'm quite certain the admins of my apartment complex haven't locked it down in any extensive manner, but I realize that may not matter if i need to forward ports. I don't know what kind of router it is either, but I'm wondering if there are any ZA configs I need to play with.

I DLed the php connection checker torrent, and here is the result:

NAT check failed - Check for firewalls or port forwarding

That gateway router is probably assigning you a LAN ip address that cannot be routed across the internet. Your LAN ip address is probably in the 10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x ranges. (...Can you confirm that using whatever method you prefer?)

You need an internet (WAN) ip all to yourself and not shared with others to not need to port-forward on the gateway router.

Chances are, your apartment complex's gateway router probably DOES share a single or limited number of internet (WAN) ip/s among everyone in your apartment complex. And since you probably are not allowed to make direct changes to that router's settings, there's NOTHING you can do to make your connection unfirewalled in BitTornado.
