Post subject: WRT54G a common problem?
PostPosted: Tue Feb 07, 2006 9:26 pm
I'm wondering if there are a lot of peole having problems with this router and port forwarding? Humor me and assume I am not an idiot when it comes to following directions or computer (on a software level anyway) in general first of all. Now, I have a static IP, and I have my ports forwarded. No typos anywhere. I have no firewalls running. I have no spyware. My ISP assures me they are not blocking ports or hindering me in any way and honestly wouldn't care if I were hosting a 24/7 FTP let alone make use P2P clients.

Still, I get that yellow light. I've run port checks from various soures including the natcheck.pl posted here and the status checking torrent file posted here. Everything thinks I have a firewall running. I've tried doing this from my Windows XP partition and my Linux partition.

So, to sum it up, before I get off my lazy ass and bypass my router by running directly from my modem to my PC (hey, it's a mess back there, ok?) to make absolutely sure, I just thought I'd see if I'm not insane to think that this particular router is maliciously maniacal.

Ok, I just tried running directy from my modem (Motorola SB5100) and it's all green, no more stealth mode for all my ports, everything's good... so it's definately something with this POS router which I have configured and reconfigured in every way I can think of. Anyone looking to buy a router? I'm thinking e-Bay is calling my name. Any suggestions for a different brand/model Wireless G router?

Decrease your upload speeds, decrease max connections, turn off UPnP support in BitTornado...and see if the problems decrease.

Almost no "consumer" router handles UPnP very well for file-sharing, because most file-sharing tries to open 50+ connections at once. UPnP works best with only 1-10 connections at once.
