Thanks bud for the guide, it worked for me! I am using a Dell TrueMobile 2300 wireless router, and for Triggering it only allows you to have 1 entry and only 1 port = / So I tried 6881 since that is the port the first torrent uses by default and got that to go green, then I tried Port Forwarding to do 6881-6889 and ran 3 torrents and all of them eventually went green! Thanks again!

I can't do the ip login thingy cz I don'tk now his acct and stuff. I imagine it'd have to be the account for the conenction not his desktop. But I still get yellow light on bittornado. This is really bugging me jz like it would anyone else. any help is much appreciated.

I think the most sensible thing to do is to set your dhcp servers up to assign specific ips to specific machines using their ethernet addresses, then you can static ports easily

Just wanted to say thanks for this explanation. I used my own mangled method based upon this to get it working. My download has increased to between 5 and 9 times what it was prior.

THANKS!

I just found out about BitTorrent and when I tried this and logged on to my router, the page can't seem to properly display the tables. I keep getting errors about borders and stuff. Help please.

What should I enter for the Ip adrress ?

It says 192.168.1.(Blank)

The last part is for me to fill in but I don't know where to find it
I know close to nothing about Ips and stuff :(

I'm using a LINKSYS WIRELESS - G BROADBAND WRT54G ROUTER

The closest I got to getting a green light was forcing to display it green :D

I just did it. but how does it find it for bittorrent? since how i read it was that it just opens the ports when i open bittorrent. Also does that mean that since i have bittorrent on that other comp too, port forwarding will not work? or is it only if bittorrent is open on both comps. since i only have it open on one comp.

i did the port settings yet its still not green for me =(

what do we do if we dun have a router or a firewall, all ports are open, did a NAT check on the port yer d/ling from and it says fail and the d/l is at 1-10kb/s but the upload is twice or 3 times than the d/l rate then try to lower the upload rate to 10kb/s and the d/l rate rise to 20 than goes down in 5min.the yellow light is on(even though i have no firewall) my ip address shows x.x.x.x(when type ipconfig on command) but it shows y.y.y.y in an ip checker somewhere in the web and is has a connection of 512kb/s?

PostPosted: Fri Jun 25, 2004 11:00 pm
I have the LinkSYS Router thing.....but how do you find the password If you've forgotten it. And something's weird.....When I reformatted my computer a few weeks ago...my computer didn't install the Router.....it just connected straight to the internet......So I dunno how to fix this.....and I'm afraid of pulling plugs outta my modem or router cause I tried that but it like messed up my internet so I had to get my dad to fix it

finally got it to work.
I did Port Triggering and I turned off the MS firewall.

go to the LAN icon --> advance tab.
turn off firewall.

I think the router firewall is in place with port triggering so it should
be ok to turn the MS firewall off.

This isn't working for me at all.....I dunno how I'm able to connect to the internet through the router without installing it, and when I do, it says it can't identify a connection through the router. And when I try to log into my Router settings....the default username and password don't work.

You can clear the password setting by holding down the reset button until the diag light turns on (or was it off? I can't remember) and then cycling power to the router. This reloads the default settings from the firmware.

Certain people prefer the idea of leaving their computer stealthed or firewalled. And yet, as theSHAD0W has pointed out, being Firewalled/NAT-Stealthed is bad when it comes to BT. So, we have to open ports. But some of us don't wanna open ports all the time.

Others have our computers set up for DHCP, maybe for a reason, but they do. They don't set a permanent LAN I.P. address.

This is where Port-Triggering comes in. If your Router, such as the Linksys BEFSR41 supports Port Triggering, you can have the ports turned on for only as long as you use Bit-Torrent.

Here's how:
  1. Log on to your Router (usually through your browser, with the address 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.2.1, etc. Check your owners manual). For Linksys Routers, this is going to be 192.168.1.1
  2. Type in your password, and all that jazz.
  3. For Linksys Routers, find the FORWARDING page. Other routers will see this as NAT -> VIRTUAL SERVER
  4. Linksys, click the "Port Triggering" Button you will see. Other users try to find something similar, "Application Ports/Triggers", etc., not your standard virtual server.
  5. On a new, blank field, enter "BitTorrent" as your application name. (This doesn't matter really, but it makes it easy to identify)
  6. Your Trigger Port range will be 6881-6889, if you must specify: it's TCP.
  7. Your incoming or private port range will be your client's range. By default, 6881-6889 or 6881-6999 should be fine.
  8. Click OK/APPLY/SAVE, then leave and return to the page to make sure the settings sticked.
  9. Log out of your router, and enjoy remaining secure while still getting full use of Bit-Torrent.
Whenever you connect to a peer in the trigger range, your router will automatically open up and forward the ports for you. Once you close Bit-Torrent, the router will close up your ports again. This will work regardless of your I.P. address.

Unless, of course... you have two computers using bit-torrent at once beneath the same router. I'll let you experiment and play with that one. (Hint, don't make the trigger/client ports the same).

EDIT: I've come to realize that some people also open up standard forwards to make sure it works. This is not necessary, you do not have to set up standard port-forwards, as the Port Triggering will take care of that for you. If you use standard Port-Forwarding, Port Triggering will not work as it should.

Hey, I have a question. How do I know what port to open if I am trying to host a game, such as Command and Conquer Generals?
