I have an ovislinkcorp ovipac-711 modem router with built in firewall.

http://www.tiendapc.com/SDetails/$pid=21664$sid=1113

Presently ports 6881-6999 are not open.

I have found the configuration menu for opening ports but I am a bit confused as to which IP addresses I should be entering and whether I should use the private port settings as shown below.

Cheers, hopefully I´ll get rid of this damned yellow light

The Host IP is the IP of the computer where you want to run bittornado or more specific, the IP of the NIC that is connected to your router. This should be preferably a static IP: http://forums.degreez.net/viewtopic.php?t=741.
The private IP is 6881 if you set the Port (From) and (To) to 6881 and 6999. Your router should automatically map the ports as range to 6881-6999.
You can test you settings here: http://btfaq.com/natcheck.pl.

I understand which ports to enter on the Virtual Server menu on the previous post, but
which kind of port type should I use?
which host ip address should I enter?
should I have a private port setting?

Thanks for any help and forgive my stupiditty.

Port (from): 6881
Port (to): 6999
Port Type: TCP
Host IP: 192.168.1.142
Private Port: 6881

You only need to forward as much ports as you want to run simultaneously downloads with bittornado, because every instance of bittornado needs one port opened.
Also it is better to assign a static IP to your computer, because you will loose the port forwarding if you get another IP assigned through DHCP.
