I am using windows xp with cable internet access and have turned off the firewall in windows xp. When I run the bittorrent client and use tcpview to see which ports are active, I see connections to ports 6881, 6882 etc. on remote computers, but the local port on my computer in listed at 3727, 3731 etc.

I have the preferences in bittrorrent set to the correct port range 6881 to 6999

Why are my local ports not in this range.. Could this be causing my slow download rate?

Local ports are irrelevant for outbound connections. The listed BT ports are only used for incoming connections.
