i usually see 20-40 peers (not seeds), so use 15 as max uploads

most isp's allow half as much upload speed as download speed

Max Upload Speed should = 1/4 your advertised download speed divided by peers. (half your advertised upload speed)

$50 512kbps download/128kbps upload @ 15 uploads use 5kbps
$75 1.0mbps download/512kbps upload @ 15 uploads use 17kbps
$120 1.5mbps download/1.0mbit upload @ 15 uploads use 34kbps

(prices will vary)

This will allow 3/4 of your bandwidth to be used as download, and 1/4 to be used for upload. if everyone used these settings bittorrent would be a lot faster for everyone because more upload = more downloading all around.

You have to close and reopen Bit Tornado to get out of superseed mode.

your price list sucks, $50 a month gets me verizon fiop, 15mbps down 5 up.

Just set a 1/3 to 1/4 upload/download in BT,
especially since now most trackers limit your dl based on your ul.

You should not be running super seed unless there are no other seeders on the torrent.

Are you using a router? If so, you need to enable passthrough, I recommend ports 6881-6889. You will also need to configure BT to work on just those ports.

Hope this helps increase bandwith for those behind a router.

 Post subject: Another new user
PostPosted: Sun Jul 03, 2005 3:50 pm
Hi, I'm another new user trying to boost my dl speed. I'm using a ADSL on XP Pro. The settings I'm using as of now are: dsl/cable fast, 68k upload rate & 15 max uploads. I ran a speed test on dslreports.com and got 1197kbps down and 206kbps up. Took an above posters advice to use 1/4 or 1/3 of my upload so 206/3 = 68.

Right now my torrent rates are 13-15 kbps down and ~23 up, showing a total speed of 355kbps and a share rating of .538 :/. Also, I'm connected to 39 peers and 25 seeds, with 9.999 dist. copies.

What can I do to improve this, and how do you guys make those oh-so handy screenshots of your torrent stats?

Thanks in advance.

By the way, I'm using Sygate's personal firewall with permissions granted for BitTornado, and show a green light status light.

to work out what you can download approximately, take your advertised connection (e.g. 256kb) and divide by 8 to get the download speed.....you do the math
