i am trying to set an upload limit when i am downloadnig a torrent

i have tried

btdownloadcurses.py download.php?id=5063017 --upload_unit_size 80

but the torrent starts up grand but the upload spirals way out of control up to 800kb asecond which i cannot afford!

any help appreciated

i am a nwebie with unix so forgive my ignorance

if you meant "linux" then you can setup cbq based traffic shaping.
get cbq.init http://freshmeat.net/projects/cbq.init and iproute2 (your distro might already have both)
you can use iptables' mark target to mark bittornado's traffic.
and find a good guide on traffic shaping. i am no good at explaining.

ok seems a little complex will have a look tho..

have i go tthe syntax right in the original post for limiting the upload speed

--max_upload_rate is probably what you need.

brilliant thanks so obvious i suppose but that helped me no end...i was upping at over 1 meg for a while...counlnt afford it
