I've never really looked much at the torrent clients memory usage, but after installing 0.3.4 my system got slugish. so I found the memory usage was quite extreme.. (75mb physical and 135mb virtual pr. client.)

with the new 0.3.6 it's improved a bit (60mb physical and 80mb virtual with 1 client running) still looks to be much for such a small program, but the system is not slugish anymore..

Physical:
Total: 523732
avaliable: 176088
System cache: 278456
Running win2k

Not fixed for me in 3.6... I opened 4 torrents with 300 to 4000 megs in size and after about 2 hours my mem went from 380 to 43 megs ram... I did put back the default enable read/write buff and deactivated the disk flush every 5 min... maybe it would be better off with it enabled?

Disk flush won't help. Disabling the buffer might.

7 instances of bittornado

each instance is using 21-27mb of physical memory

With a torrent of 4.63 gig with 25 files running at an average of about 140 kb/s with an upload of 70 kb/s, I lose about 1 meg of ram every 7-12 seconds. read/write buff disabled

this is pretty much the worst case ive encountered

Do you think pre-allocate would slow down the process?

Post subject:  Didn't really fixed the problem

I tried downloading a 650mb file, my memory decreased from 350mb to 40mb.

But I do notice that I was downloading faster than usual, that might contribute. Speed was around 200kbps download, 20kbps upload.

I had just tried the official bittorrent client, pretty much the same thing. My memory keeps going down.

XP, 512mb ram, many hd, 0.3.6 bitornado.

Great job!! You have the best bittorrent client out there!

in the announcement for this version, you say something about works with buffers turned off, what are you talking about.

0.3.6 seemed to work fairly well, but the latest 0.3.7 is leaking badly again...

That was me... Task Manager says that I currently have about 40 MB RAM left. That's out of 512 total :( I have only been running this for a little over an hour. I guess I'll have to go back to using 0.3.6

Just an update. After posting that, I uninstalled 0.3.7 and reinstalled 0.3.6
The memory leak is once again fixed, but it seems that it downloads slower. I had noticed this before, but I thought that maybe it was just the particular torrent. However, while using 0.3.7 I was downloading a lot faster. Oh well... I would rather have the memory leak fixed than have a little extra speed :)

I have been running these 2 torrents again, for the same amount of time.
Task Manager says I have about 135 MB of free RAM. This is as opposed to 40 MB free while using 0.3.7 for the same amount of time.

One instance of T-0.3.7 is taking up a little over 30MB of RAM. It's worse than previous versions. :(

Edit: Strike that part about the speed. Seems I was seeing slow speeds because of the peer uploads...

I cant say before I try another Huge file (over 4gig) but 3.7 is working fine for me right now.

I have made 2 change before downloading my first file on 3.7 tough: first, I enabled pre-allocate in it, second, im now downloading on a ntfs volume instead of FAT32.

Ive been downloading 7 files of 300 to 700 megs in size at slow speed for over 8 hours now without any memory problem.

Running bittornado 0.36 (and lower) never gave me any problems (except once for a link to some .ico's :))

however with 0.3.7 I've run into a memory leak. After 20min most of my memory is gone. Quiting the program instantly gives the memory back and I can restart the torrent...

Physical memory (K)
Total: 523752
Available: 30692 (as I'm typing this)
System Cache: 304660

On a side note, pausing the torrent also pauses the momery loss...partially. Still seems to go down, but that might be from other programs.

System:
P4 3.0Ghz with HyperThreading
512Mb mem
WinXp pro + Sp1 (including latest patches)
Kerio Personal Firewall 4.0.16
McAfee Virusscanner 8.0 (build 8.0.41 engine: 4.3.20)

Yeah, no more mem leaks for me! :D

Having ONE torrent open in T-0.3.0 took away about 40-50 mb of memory from me.

Now it's down to 5-15 mb! :D
