Same problem- but I've been told that it's my router.. a linksys befsr41 v3. I'll have to try swapping it with a different router, but since when i directly connect to my modem it works, it would seem to be the router. Of course- it doesn't die any other non- bittorent time. So- wtf?!?

My computer doesn't idle or standby. my net just dies.

Know what I find really interesting?

I'm having the same Windows box loses 'net access whenever I leave a torrent or two open too long. I don't just mean port 80, NTP equivalent can't ping the server, but AIM can somehow flick packets through. As soon as I kill a torrent, this problem goes away.

What I really find odd is, no other machine on the network is affected. I can be typing away on my Linux box on the same router, and the Winbox gets no net, and BT is fine, and the linux box is chilling with full cable download speeds, more or less.

Running 98SE on the Winbox, with (obviously) T-0.0.1. Any tips are appreciated.

Hi, I am actually facing the same problems. I run some tests and think it might be either the modem or the ISPs. I am using Internode and my friend is using DART. I went to his place and run the BitTornado up to 40 and there is no problems.

I use it on my own network up to only 15 for about 10 mintues and the modem goes down. I have yet to solve my problem yet. I have already lower all the connection setting on the Bittornado but still can't solve the problem.

Same problem here. I have to reset my cable modem every now and then when using both s5.8.11 and BitTornado. I've been using an older version of Shadow's client for quite some time now without this happening ever. I decided I'd check on a friend's PC and he experienced the exact same problems (maybe even more frequently) with BitTornado. I'm running 2000 and he is on XP.

I had this problem, turned out it was only with certain torrents. I deleted said torrents and then redownloaded and all was fine.

I am the person who started this topic. I still have not been able to fix this. I'm trying BitTornado now... Hopefully it'll work but it's doubtful. The power options did shit all, and were always configured to not power off at ANY time. My computer never idles. I've even tried anti-idlers which jiggle the mouse etc. Nothing Works. I Just don't understand it. I don't think it's due to being connected to too many users, I've accidentally left kazaa searching for "more" for like 12 hours before, my computer was under some heavy lag due to the results, but my net was still steady. I am also NOT behind a router and I'm on a 4.5mbit down, 900kbit up extreme high speed connection, meaning I can handle like 565KB/s of downstream and 112.5KB/s of upstream. I also have no router to even GET overloaded. I am directly connected. This is really starting to piss me off, I'm on Win2k SP4, this used to NEVER effect me before, now it does. I just can't begin to think of what the problem is. If anybody here has fixed this problem and has similar bandwidth/os to mine, please contact me.

Thanks :|

Like somebody else suggested, try using BitTornado and limiting your connections. I had the exact same problems but kept reducing the number until I came to a setup that has worked for 5 days straight.

Under the Advanced Prefs (Prefences -> Advanced) lower your Max Peer Connections to a number even as low as 20... the suggested is below 60 if you're having this sort of problem, but I still experienced hangups at 40 and 30 max connections.

Good luck, and happy torrenting!

This is caused by overflow on your connection.

Solution: Make sure you set Bittornado to only use a maximum of 80% of your maximum upload capacity.

I.E. If your max upload is 50kb/s, make sure your client only upload 40kb/s.

Tusi is right too. Follow his instructions, and mine, and I promise you will not have any problems in the future.

i've experimented with this problem a lot. it's definitely a bittorrent problem, not a router or cable problem. bittorrent overloads the system by asking for too much at once. my computer at this point starts freezing every for about 5 seconds, every 7 seconds, until the computer disconnects from the internet. if i don't do this manually, it can take upwards of 2 minutes. what i do is right click my network connection and disable it. then i re-enable it and the computer's fine.

i know this isn't a cable/router issue, because no matter what, the other computers on my network always remain connected to the internet. if it was really the cable's problem they would all disconnect as well.

i've found that reducing the peer connections to 40 has greatly diminished the number of times this problem occurs. it also helps to set the default upload rate to cable/dsl fast or slow. nowadays i can keep it steady around 70-100kbs which is still just fine, all things considered.

SET BT PORTS FROM 50500 to 50510

THAT IS IT! Have fun and good luck to you all!
